Alison Nikkel (g’19)

Elementary Teacher, Hesston Elementary School

“During my time at Tabor, I grew in my passion for teaching through the relationships I built with my professors and cooperating teachers. A strong sense of camaraderie was built among the Elementary Education majors, and we learned a lot from each other’s experiences from Intro to Education to student teaching, and even now as we’re out teaching in our own schools.

After my first year, I had the honor of being nominated for and selected as a Horizon Award recipient, an award in Kansas that recognizes the accomplishments of beginning teachers. I felt overjoyed and it caused me to reflect on the people who helped me get to that point. The professors and teachers I got to work with at Tabor chose to invest in me, learn my story, and encourage me in my calling. I’m thankful for the time I had at Tabor and look forward to ways that I can give back to the community!”
