Heimann Offensive CoordiantorHILLSBORO, Kan. – Steve Heimann was named Offensive Coordinator for the Tabor College Bluejays, replacing Billy Hickman, who in left the position in February. Heimann brings more than 13 years of coaching experience, from nearly all levels of the game.

“Steve has coached at every level of college football, as well as the UFL and indoor football leagues,” Tabor College Head Coach Mike Gardner said. “He has been in multiple systems and is going to do a great job with the team on and off the field. I’ve known Coach Heimann for six years, and I can’t wait for him to get here so the players can familiarize themselves with him.”

Most recently, Heimann was the offensive analyst and wide receivers coach at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. The NCAA Division I Football Subdivision school participates in the Sun Belt Conference.
Prior to coaching at CCU, Heimann was head coach for the Omaha Beef of the Champions Professional Indoor Football League. Heimann rose to the head position after starting with the Beef as the special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach. He previously worked for the United Football League’s Omaha Nighthawks. In that role, Heimann coached numerous former and current National Football League players, including Heisman trophy winners, Troy Smith and Eric Crouch.

“I am very excited to join Coach Gardner and the rest of the staff,” Heimann said. “Coach Gardner is well respected within the coaching community and has a strong reputation for being successful utilizing creative and innovative approaches to his football schemes.”

Heimann’s first impressions of Tabor come from a previous match up with the Bluejays.
“I was initially impressed with Tabor while I was coaching at Nebraska Wesleyan University, and we played against Tabor,” Heimann said. “Since then, I have come to be very impressed with the campus-wide culture of faith and family, as well as the commitment to a nationally competitive football program.”

Rusty Allen, vice president of athletics for Tabor College, believes Heimann is the right choice both on and off the field.

“Coach Heimann brings a wealth of experience as a football coach and a recruiter to our program,” said Allen. “He not only understands the game, but also is an outstanding recruiter. We are excited to have him on board to coordinate our offense. Most importantly, his Christian character and desire to positively impact young men is something that the Tabor athletic department places the highest value on.”

Heimann played defensive back for both Bethany College and The University of Nebraska-Omaha. He completed his undergraduate studies at Bellevue University, and then finished a master degree program from Bellevue as well.

Heimann is married to Rochelle, and they have three sons.
