Youth Soccer coming to Marion County

15702278145_71bd558242_zHILLSBORO, Kan. – The coaches and players of the Tabor College women’s soccer team are forming a new soccer academy for children in 1st grade through 8th grade, ages 6 to 13. The academy will provide training sessions and soccer games for the children to play. The spring session will begin the last week of March and run through the first week of May.

“I am very excited to start the Tabor College Youth Soccer Academy,” Ian Thomson, head women’s soccer coach, said. “It will be a great opportunity for the youth in the area to get a chance to play soccer while working with and meeting the college players. It will be a great experience for our team to work with young players and help the youth understand the game better.”

Tabor’s players and Coach Thomson will teach the children fundamentals and basic concepts of soccer. Thomson said it is important to teach the next generation about the game.

“Soccer has done a lot for me and I wanted to be sure to give that chance to others,” he added. “I hope to see a lot of players taking advantage of this opportunity to play and be a part of the academy.”

All games will be played at the Tabor College soccer fields. The cost is $35 per player. Each player will receive two t-shirts, which is included in the price of the academy. The deadline to register is March 27.
