Tabor freshman invited to Open Jar Institute in NYC

This past interterm, Tabor College Theatre took three students to the Region V Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival in Sioux Falls, S.D. While there, students had the opportunity to participate in workshops and masterclasses and audition for summer programs.

Lauren Carlton, director of theatre at Tabor, received word Feb. 6 that one of her students, freshman Elizabeth (Betsy) George from Omaha, Neb., was accepted for the Open Jar Institute Broadway Intensive in New York City this summer.

“Open Jar is an incredibly selective and competitive program that takes only 60 students from across the world every summer and brings them to NYC for a week of workshops in acting, singing, dance, and audition technique all taught by Broadway professionals,” Carlton said.

Elizabeth said she was hesitant at first to audition, but with encouragement from Carlton and others, she sang for the Open Jar representatives, who gave her “some really good feedback.”

“To be selected as a freshman is quite an honor,” Elizabeth said. “It will be a wonderful opportunity to explore musical theatre and to build my skills. I’m trusting God to provide the means to make it all happen.”.
