Why Tabor?
“Sometime during the fall of 2016, the seniors of my high school attended a college fair at Seward County Community College. Before any of the seniors could get off of the bus, our counselor, Mrs. Sheldon, told us that we had to speak to at least two college representatives. I had already chosen to attend Kansas State University so I knew who I was going to speak to first. Upon entering the building and seeing the K-State booth full, I chose to speak to the one rep that was open: the Tabor rep. Walking up to him, I asked him about the different clubs that Tabor had to offer. I probably spent about 30 minutes talking to him. Something about the conversation we had made me feel really loved. For the first time, a college truly cared about what its students and potential students thought and had to say. So going home that day, I was torn. Should I go to K-State or should I go to Tabor? The only way I knew how to find an answer was to pray. I asked for a sign of some sort. I got that sign in the form of Bradley Prescott.
Why PLP?
I did not know that PLP existed until Brad told me that I should apply. I looked it up and liked what I saw. But really it was all Brad, and thanks to his help and encouragement I was able to get this far.
What is leadership?
When I think of leadership, the first thing that pops into my mind is doing what’s right when no one is watching and helping whoever you can.
The need.
When you think about it, there’s need for Christ-like leadership everywhere. Take a moment and just look around. You can notice some pretty crazy things. If you just take a moment to slow down and actually pay attention to notice a thing or two, you’ll see where there’s more need of Christ-like leadership.
My role.
The way that I plan on ‘filling’ these needs is by just being myself and doing what I have already been doing: helping whoever I can by talking to them, helping them with a favor or by just being there. It’s the best way anyone can help fill those needs.
My dream job.
There’s a lot that I’d like to accomplish, but my dream job would have something to do with animals. Right now my goal is to become a veterinarian for large animals such as cattle and horses. Once I get the basics down, I’d really like to specialize in equine, which is just another term for horses. I’d like to work with horses in the sports area, like showjumpers, race horses, cross country horses, and barrel racing horses–any horse that is in constant motion. My ultimate goal is to be able to perform surgery on those animals and design therapy programs for horses who are healing from an injury.
My leadership.
I have always been surrounded by leadership all my life, so not having it around would be like having a piece of me missing. Leadership makes me who I am and also the person I am to become. It’s important to my future because it makes me me.
PLP at Tabor.
I haven’t start at Tabor or PLP yet but I hope that it pushes my limits. I hope that it puts me in situations where I wouldn’t normally have found myself in and situations that make me uncomfortable because that is how I will discover what kind of leader I am.
Fun Fact.
During Early Registration on June 3rd, I got to see Jessica Garcia again. She told me that I was the first Hispanic to be inaugurated into the program. For me, that is a HUGE honor because I know that I am representing my people and my culture.
