Chin receives Excellence in Artistic Achievement in Visual Arts Award

Shin-hee Chin, professor of art, received the Excellence in Artistic Achievement Achievement in Visual Arts Award at the 2025 Governor’s Arts Awards. She was recognized at the March 13 awards ceremony at the Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center in Topeka, Kan., where they celebrated contributions to arts and culture in Kansas.

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Kansas Arts Commission,” Chin said. “As an artist and educator, I have always believed in the power of art to tell stories, bridge cultures, inspire reflection, and reveal deeper truth. At Tabor College, I have been privileged to cultivate creativity within a Christ-centered community that values artistic expression and faith. This award reaffirms the vital role of the arts in shaping culture and deepening our understanding of the world. With humility and gratitude, I continue my work, knowing that creativity is a sacred gift to be stewarded with faith and devotion.”

Chin first came to Tabor College in 2004 and began teaching full-time one year later.

Recently, she received a nomination for the Master of the Medium for Fiber Award through the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C. She also received the Koch Cultural Trust Fellowship Award from the Koch Family Foundation in Wichita, Kan., in 2023. On campus, Chin was recognized with the Clarence R. Hiebert Excellence in Teaching Award in 2020 and has twice given the Dr. Richard G. Kyle Faculty Lecture Series in 2016 and 2022.
