Dean of Student Life, Learning, and Formation
HILLSBORO, Kan.— With over 20 years of experience in higher education student affairs and development, Ted Boykin, M.Div., was introduced as Tabor College’s new dean of student life, learning, and formation this summer.
A career-long commitment to Christian education led Boykin to Tabor’s campus, and he said the Lord’s leading was evident from the start.
“What excites me most about Tabor College is its compatibility with my mission,” Boykin said. “I believe God has called me to shepherd people into Christ-likeness and service through discipling, teaching, counseling, and administration. Coming here is a great opportunity to continue to do those things for God’s glory.”
After interviewing at Tabor in the spring semester, Boykin said he enjoyed meeting the students and how they immersed themselves in their decidedly Christian education.
“They impressed me with their heart for God and for what he was doing in their lives here at Tabor,” Boykin said. “I enjoyed meeting with them and looked forward to the possibility (now reality) of getting to know them and helping them experience growth in the context of Christian community and all that God has in store for them during their time at Tabor College.”
First arriving at Clarks Summit University (Pa.) in 1989, Boykin’s dedication to the holistic student experience was evident from the start. He most recently served as vice president of student development, but also held roles of Title IX coordinator, associate dean of students, residence hall director/campus counselor, assistant head coach for men’s basketball, and associate professor.
“Working in student life in higher education is helping students grow and develop spiritually, relationally, academically, and professionally,” Boykin said. “Seeing students become servants of the Lord who build Christ’s kingdom is what that growth and development are all about.”
With the onboarding of Jost Hall in fall 2023, the remodeling of East Hall in the women’s quad, and additional new housing in the coming years, Boykin is thrilled by the student life team that surrounds him, the progression of a new era of Tabor residence life, and the growth of other student resources.
“My team consists of people who nurture the development of our students through intentional relationships and programs that combine faith with day-to-day living and learning,” Boykin said. “They are wonderful to work with and are dedicated to shaping the lives of our students to serve Christ and His kingdom.”
Boykin earned his B.S. in human services from St. John’s University (N.Y.). He also completed two master’s degrees, including an M.Div. in biblical studies from Baptist Bible Seminary (Pa.) and an M.S. in Christian counseling at Cairn University (Pa.).
