Tabor College Wichita Hosts Info Session

Info Session at TCWWICHITA, Kan. – Tabor College Wichita invites anyone interested in finishing a degree or exploring additional education to attend an informational session this spring. The event will be on Monday, April 10 at 6 p.m. at Tabor’s Wichita location at 7348 W. 21st St.

Both events will include a short welcome from Tom Shaw, vice president and dean of the school of adult and graduate studies along with a time for questions and answers from program faculty and admissions staff. Free food catered by Chick-fil-A and entry into a drawing to win a Samsung tablet add an extra element of interest to the event.

“While the majority of our classwork happens online, we have found that our students and faculty really value the relationships they build throughout their time together,” Shaw said. “This opportunity for face-to-face dialogue while students may still have questions about their next step in education helps jump start those relationships.”

TCW offers degrees in nursing, ministry and business ranging from associates to master’s degree options. Students find the faculty to be directly involved in their education while offering the convenient and flexible schedules that make online programs popular. Classes take place online, but most programs have opportunities for regular communication through Zoom technology.

The ministry entrepreneurship and innovation program takes that faculty involvement seriously.

“We match every student with a faculty mentor for a one-on-one relationship through the entire program,” said Rick Bartlett, director of ministry programs at TCW.

Graduates and current students both say this has been a difference maker for them in the program.

Shelly Westfall earned her bachelor’s degree from TCW and is now working on a master’s degree in ministry entrepreneurship and innovation while serving as director of adult programs at Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Derby. She has appreciated the unique combination of flexibility and personal attention TCW provides.

“To have that coaching and guidance and support is a big deal,” Westfall said. “The program gives us really applicable tools. It’s all about getting in and getting dirty and making things happen.”

Application is at the heart of all nursing, ministry and business program courses at TCW.

That focus on application turned out to be just what Matthew Moore needed to make a change in his life. Moore was working in aviation when he began the MBA program at TCW.

“The main reason I went for my business degree is that no matter where you go, you can always use a business degree and it is a very versatile degree to have,” Moore said.

In the capstone course, he developed a business plan. That homework assignment turned into Kinetic Impulse Parkour, Wichita’s only parkour-exclusive training facility.

“It was only natural to see how I could utilize that plan and open my own gym,” he said.

Moore owns and operates the facility that offers open gym time, scheduled classes including an introduction to parkour and sponsors two athletes.

Tabor welcomes students who are just starting out, want to make a career change, seek to finish a degree program or are looking to grow in their current field. For more information about TCW or the information session, email learn@tabor.edu or visit tabor.edu/online.
