Tabor College Selected as NAIA Baseball Host

Opening Round Baseball Hobart-DetterHILLSBORO, Kan. – For the fourth time in six years, Tabor College has been selected by the NAIA as a host for Opening Round baseball. Games will be held May 15-18 at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson, Kan. The champion of the Opening Round tournament will advance to the NAIA Baseball World Series in Lewiston, Idaho at the end of the month.

“We’re thrilled to be chosen once again as one of the Opening Round sites,” said Rusty Allen, vice president for athletics. “Our staff comes together to put on a great event with the support of the crew at Hobart-Detter. We look forward to welcoming teams to Hutchinson.”

Nine colleges across the U.S., are selected as hosts for the first step in national post-season play. The KCAC’s Oklahoma Wesleyan will also host a site in Bartlesville, Okla. Other locations include Bellevue, Neb., Hattiesburg, Miss., Kingsport, Tenn., Lawrenceville, Ga., Lima, Ohio, Montgomery, Ala., and Oklahoma City, Okla.

Five teams will be chosen to play at each site in a double elimination tournament. The Bluejays finished the regular season ranked 13th nationally earning a spot in the Opening Round.

“Opening Round is one of the things our guys work toward throughout the season,” said Mark Standiford, head coach for Tabor. “We’re excited to compete with new teams and talent during the week.”
