DeLeon, Webb and 2014 baseball team named to Athletics Hall of Fame

The 2014 Tabor College baseball team, Manny DeLeon, and Jacob Webb have been named as the 2023 inductees for the Tabor College Athletics Hall of Fame.

The 2014 Bluejay baseball team capped a historic 2014 campaign with a fifth-place finish at the NAIA College World Series. DeLeon was the 2016 NAIA Player of the Year, while Jacob Webb was selected as 2014 KCAC Pitcher of the Year and continues his professional career with the Los Angeles Angels.

The 2023 class will be inducted on campus on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 4:30 p.m. in the Franz Family Heritage Lobby of the Shari Flaming Center for the Arts.

Webb finished his career at Tabor first in individual season strikeouts (129), second in career ERA (1.74) and was second and third in individual season record for strikeouts with 15 (twice) and 14. He pitched for the Bluejays in 2013 and 2014. Webb was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 18th round of the MLB Draft. He also won a World Series with Braves in 2021.

The 2014 Bluejay team finished with an overall record of 51-13, while posting a 24-4 KCAC mark. They won both the KCAC Regular Season and KCAC Tournament titles. Tabor’s Kirk Rocha was named the KCAC Player of the Year, Jacob Webb earned KCAC Pitcher of the Year, and Colton Flax was tabbed the KCAC Freshman of the Year and Mark Standiford was selected as the KCAC Coach of the Year. Tabor also grabbed 11 other KCAC individual awards during the season. The Bluejays boasted four first-team, All KCAC performers as well as five second-team and four honorable mention selections. Junior Mustain
(second-team), Kirk Rocha (honorable mention) and Jacob Webb (honorable mention) were also selected as NAIA All-Americans.

Tabor’s 2014 team finished in the top six of seven different categories at the end of the season, highlighted by a second-place finish in total doubles (147), third in batting average (.350), fifth in total hits (595), fifth in total runs scored (464) and fifth in total runs batted in (422). The Bluejays finished sixth in both total stolen bases (148) and total batters struck out (426).

Team members are: Jean Acevedo, Gadiel Baez, Jahaziel Cantu, Armando Castillo, Keenan Chanin, Alex Cole, Colton Connolly, CJ DeDeaux, Eric Exum, Colton Flax, Joy Guevara, Alex Hill, Pete Lelich, Russell Longworth, Alex Mann, Luis Munoz, Junior Mustain, Ryan Neufeld, Shaun Reid, Caleb Richert, Kirk Rocha, Kevin Seeger, Grant Silva, Blake Standiford, Troy Torres, Dakota Vaughn, Jacob Webb, Brad White, Dawson Newman, and coaches Mark Standiford and Andy Davis, Manny DeLeon, the Bluejays’ centerfielder, was named an NAIA and KCAC first-team selection. He also added honors of KCAC Player of the Year, KCAC Player of the Week (twice) and the Tabor College Male Athlete of the Year.

DeLeon led the nation in an impressive six categories: runs batted in per game (1.742), total bases per game (3.355), home runs (25), total bases (208), total runs batted in (108) and slugging percentage (0.897). He was also second in total hits (102) and home runs per game (0.403). He was in the top 10 in five other categories. He still holds four Tabor College single-season records: hits (102), RBIs (108), doubles (25) and home runs (25). DeLeon helped Tabor to its sixth-straight 40-win season, as they finished 45-18 on the season.
