Deborah, a 2002 graduate of Tabor College in Hillsboro, subsequently graduated from the KU School of Medicine-Wichita and after completing her pediatrics residency, joined the faculty in 2010. In 2016, she received her master’s degree in medical education from the University of Cincinnati. She is the Program Director for KU-Wichita Pediatrics residency program and serves on many committees at KU-Wichita. She also sees patients at the KU Pediatrics Clinic and works as a newborn hospitalist.
A native of Minnesota, she was first exposed to mission work by her mother’s relatives. Deborah has gone on many trips, including to Jordan and Tanzania, and Ghana. She’s led groups of Physician Assistant students to Bolivia three times and served with Medical Education International in Zambia and Mongolia, where she was part of teams who put on conferences for local physicians. In addition, she has organized a global health rotation so pediatric residents can engage internationally. She also mentors a young person locally through Youth Horizons.
Deborah married Kevin Alliston earlier this summer, and he joined her on her latest trip to Ghana. In her free time, Deborah especially loves going on outdoor adventures like kayaking or hiking and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
