HILLSBORO, Kan. – Tabor College is pleased to announce that Daryl Green has been hired as the head cheerleading coach and spirit coordinator for Bluejays athletics.
Rusty Allen, vice president for intercollegiate athletics, made the announcement.
“We are pleased to have someone with the depth of experience and knowledge of cheer giving leadership to our cheerleading squad,” Allen said. “Coach Green’s enthusiasm, expertise and desire to pursue excellence with a decidedly Christian approach should provide an outstanding experience for those who participate in cheerleading at Tabor College.
“We share a vision of seeing the program continuing to be not only the catalyst for positive spirit within Tabor athletics, but to become a competitive program within the world of cheer,” Allen added.
Green says he is ready for the next step in his coaching career.
“I am very excited to be taking a lead in helping grow Tabor’s cheer leading program,” Green said, “and I hope to create an atmosphere of success for all of the programs at Tabor College. Change happens on a daily basis and with the support of Tabor and the community I am thrilled to be starting a new chapter in my life.”
In 2012, Green received his bachelor of education degree in sports science, with an emphasis in exercise science, from the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
While at KU, Green was a four-year member of the Jayhawks cheerleading team, was on the student-athlete honor roll and hosted the pre-game center-court show for men’s basketball home games.
Since 2010, Green has served as the head instructor for Universal Cheerleaders Association, where he organized and led high school/college level camps. He also taught cheerleading skills, cheers and sideline routines, plus evaluated each cheerleading team.
Prior to being promoted to the head instructor, Green served as a cheer instructor for UCA, where he learned to judge cheerleading and assisted in running national-level cheerleading competitions. He was also nominated twice for the UCA Veteran of the Year award.
Green has also served as a choreographer for Kansas Wesleyan University (2012-13), a cheer/tumbling instructor at both Lawrence Gymnastics and Athletics, in Lawrence, Kan., (2011-12) and Top City Athletics, in Topeka, Kan., (2009-2011).
Green grew up in Wichita and graduated from Wichita Heights High School.
