HILLSBORO, Kan. – Groundbreaking for the Shari Flaming Center for the Arts is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, May 2 in Tabor Park, located at the northwest corner of campus.

President Jules Glanzer said, “The long held dream of building a Center for the Arts will be officially launched with the groundbreaking ceremony.

“It will be a time of celebration and fellowship. The reality of commencing the construction will be an inspiration to so many of the Tabor constituency.”

Site preparation will begin early this summer. Construction of the building will ensue in fall 2015. The entire project is expected to be completed and dedicated late in 2016.

Tabor has raised $14.3 million of the $16.2 million Signature Campaign goal. The remaining $1.9 million will be used to endow the facility, meet the annual fund needs and pay for the recent campus enhancements. The anticipated cost of the Shari Flaming Center for the Arts has increased to meet the many needs of the visual, performing and fine arts programs. The expected cost of the building will be between $12 to 13 million. Based on these estimates, additional funds are being raised and allocated for the building.

The Center for the Arts will include a performance auditorium, a black-box theater, a grand lobby, classrooms, a recording studio, choral rehearsal room and a visual arts education wing.tabor_signature_campaign

Glanzer said that the donations and contributions given toward this campaign have truly been gifts from God.

“The outpouring of the generosity of our people has been nothing short of amazing,” he said. “People have given their hard earned dollars, money they have inherited, appreciated assets and life savings. People have given out of their abundance and with great sacrifice. The gracious hand of God has made it possible for this very special moment in the history of Tabor.”
