Tabor students retrieving their belongings from residence halls

Tabor College has developed an express check-out process to give students the opportunity to retrieve their belongings.

Out of an abundance of caution, and taking into consideration the above challenges, as well as taking into consideration the health and welfare of the Tabor and the Hillsboro community, we have taken measured steps to help students retrieve their belongings. The move-out process, which has gained county and state approval, has been structured in a way that limits the number of students on campus so we can navigate social distancing, group restrictions, and the Kansas stay-home order.

Before giving clearance for students to come back to campus, they have been asked to fill out a health screening questionnaire and an expectations form. Since the express check-out process removed the face-to-face interaction with staff on campus, detailed instructions along with a phone hotline was provided to students with questions.

On students’ selected day and time on move-out, Tabor made sure the timing was spread out over the residence halls and houses so there is limited to no interaction with another student and their family. It has been a slow process, but as of this week, every student has been given an opportunity to start his or her check-out process to retrieve their belongings. Our target date for move-out to be complete is May 15,

Emir Ruiz-Esparza, dean of student life, learning and formation, noted, “I have been very grateful to have an incredible student life staff and a collaborative relationship with facilities during this COVID-19 pandemic. The social distancing guidelines, group restrictions, and the Kansas stay-home order has presented unique challenges for the College to have students retrieve their belongings. Yet, the Student Life team has met these challenges.”
