Tabor Students Attend KSCPA 2016 Member Value Day

KSCPA LogoThe Kansas Society of CPAs (KSCPA) held its annual Member Value Day and Student-CPA Connect on November 16, 2016 at the Marriott in Wichita. Students from Tabor College attended the event to gain real world perspectives and the opportunity connect with CPA professionals in the field.

Member Value Day and Student CPA-Connect is an event sponsored by KSCPA to show appreciation to its members – allowing them to come together to learn, connect and celebrate accomplishments.

The event kicked off with a Women to Watch Awards Breakfast, honoring winners and nominees for their successful integration of work/life balance and the advancement of women into positions of leadership.

The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) Chair Kimberly Ellison-Taylor, CPA, CGMA delivered a captivating and diverse Professional Issues Update in which students and attendees alike, were able to zero in on new and emerging trends impacting the accounting profession.

A panel discussion, What to Expect Your First Year in the Profession featured real world perspectives from young leaders on the various accounting career paths, the unique qualifications – and potential for each, and what students can expect that first year. Following the panel discussion, students made connections, asked questions, and spent one-on-one time with members of KSCPA’s “20 up to 40” leadership program.

KSCPA honored individuals who had recently passed the CPA Exam at the CPA Exam Passers Recognition Luncheon. Looking to the future and their own aspirations – students were able to envision themselves in the shoes of those recognized for this monumental accomplishment.

Think Tank Roundtables offered inter-generational collaboration by including both students and CPAs in the discussions. Participants offered perspectives and ideas on how to best achieve success and the success of its members by focusing on strategic goals and ways to implement that encourage connecting the community, innovating as forward-thinking professionals, advocating and building key relationships, and advancing knowledge and learning.

The KSCPA values the contributions of students to Member Value Day and Student-CPA Connect. Recognizing them as up-and-coming professionals and the future leaders of the accounting profession, KSCPA strives to be the foundation of support as students experience growth, opportunity, and challenges throughout their lives.
