Tabor Selects Presidential Leadership Scholars

HILLSBORO, Kan. – Six high school seniors have been chosen to participate as scholars in Tabor College’s Presidential Leadership Program.

During selection weekend, 24 candidates completed tasks that included participating in speed interview exercises, meeting one-on-one with President Jules Glanzer and PLP program director Erin Barocio, collaborating on a group presentation, completing group leadership exercises with Wendell Loewen, professor of youth, church and culture, and submitting a leadership essay to be graded prior to arrival.

“The best part of the weekend personally was watching young people from all different backgrounds come together to compete, learn, solve problems and take on challenges,” said Grant Meyers, dean of admissions at Tabor.

Due to a very competitive and competent field this year, six students were chosen instead of the usual number of four.

“During the past two years, we have had scholars graduate in three years, reducing the intended number of participants in the program,” said Jules Glanzer, president of Tabor College. “By choosing six this year, we are filling the void that came as a result of early graduation by some of the scholars.”

The selected scholars are Sarah Glosson, Wichita, Kan.; Nathan Kemling, Grant, Neb.; Devon Rickets, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Abby Sechrist, Hillsboro, Kan.; David Wiens, Half Moon Bay, Calif.; Jessa Yaussi, Frankfort, Kan.

“Although students only had a weekend together, several strong friendships were formed, which was amazing to witness,” Meyers said.
