“You Are Special” Performance May 7

CBV 2016

HILLSBORO, Kan. – Tabor Arts presents “You Are Special” from Concerto Bella Voce. The women’s vocal ensemble will perform their home concert on Sunday, May 7 at 4 p.m. at the Hillsboro Mennonite Church. The public is encouraged to attend this event.

The book “You Are Special” by Max Lucado inspired the concert selections.

“The book is about someone who feels bad based on what others think of him until he realizes the only opinion that matters is God’s,” said Jen Stephenson, director of vocal studies. “All of our pieces will tie into the theme of the book, which is about unconditional love.”

Students in the choir will present the story to the audience through song and dramatic readings. Each member of the ensemble will present a reading. Of the 13 pieces that will be performed, five are in Hebrew, one is in Spanish and all have been memorized.

The students in Concerto Bella Voce are not necessarily expecting careers in performing arts when they graduate. The women are students from all majors and areas of campus.

Stephenson is especially excited for the concert because she has seen so much personal achievement by each of the women.

“The ladies have really worked hard on this music and on improving their individual voices, and it shows,” said Stephenson. “We’re excited to share an afternoon of music with the community.”
