Shaw Named Head of Tabor College Wichita Campus

Dr. Tom Shaw - New VP for WichitaWICHITA, Kan. – Tabor College is pleased to welcome Dr. Tom Shaw as vice president of Tabor College Wichita. Shaw comes to Tabor from Simpson University in Redding, Calif.

“Dr. Shaw has more than 20 years of experience in post-secondary education and much of that has been spent working with adult and graduate students,” President Jules Glanzer said. “I am thrilled that he is part of the senior leadership team at Tabor.”

Like Glanzer, Shaw is energized by the work going on at the Wichita campus.

“I’ve known of Tabor for years and resonate with the mission and vision of the college,” Shaw said. “Having the opportunity to lead the Wichita campus is a privilege knowing the excellent reputation the school has in its 22-year presence in the city.

“Helping people complete their degrees is very motivating to me because of the value it brings to their lives, their faith, and of course, their careers.”

At Simpson Shaw served as the vice president for enrollment management where he managed a team responsible for the recruitment and retention of undergraduate, graduate, adult studies and seminary students.

In that role Shaw led a team in strategic planning for enrollment, financial aid restructuring and relationship building with feeder schools and churches. He also taught ethics for the organizational leadership program.

“My experience serving in higher education in various leadership roles—as an administrator, marketer, instructor, consultant and accreditation team evaluator will be valuable in contributing to Tabor’s advancement in Wichita,” Shaw said. “I’m most grateful to have dedicated and experienced colleagues to partner together to invest in the adult and graduate studies programs and to see students succeed. Being new to the area, I’ll be counting on them to assist in my learning curve.”

Glanzer says Shaw’s experience will further Tabor’s effort in Wichita.

“Tom is already working with staff to further grow and develop the programs at TCW,” Glanzer said. “His experience, character, and commitment to Christian higher education will greatly enhance and help Tabor fulfill our mission of preparing people for a life of learning, work, and service for Christ and His kingdom. We welcome his insight as we move into a new phase at the Wichita campus.”

Prior to working at Simpson College Shaw spent 11 years at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Ill., as the vice president of student and enrollment services and 11 years as dean of enrollment management at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn.

Shaw received a bachelor’s degree in education from Moody Bible Institute, a master’s degree in college student personnel and a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Shaw began his service at Tabor on July 1.
