The Search Team will announce the names of the finalists to the Tabor community the week of April 19.

April 13, 2021

This week the Search Team will meet multiple times, debriefing information gained from reference checks, conducting finalist interviews, and continuing to discuss and evaluate the merits and potential concerns of the remaining candidates.  As part of the discernment process, on Tuesday, April 27 and Wednesday, April 28, the two remaining finalists will be in Hillsboro for a day of campus interviews.  Although the details of those visits are still being finalized, each candidate, on their respective days, will have the opportunity to interact with various stakeholders, including students, staff, faculty, administration, coaches, and Board members.  Individuals will be encouraged to offer feedback based on their experience with the candidates.

March 30, 2021

Last evening the Search Team finished a stretch of seven meetings in six days.  During this period, we interviewed each of our five semifinalists, debriefed those interviews, evaluated the merits of each candidate, selected our three finalists, and established the final steps of the search process.  We remain grateful for the way we believe God is leading the process and expectant that He will help us identify exactly the right person to lead Tabor forward.  Thanks for your continued encouragement and prayers.

March 22, 2021

Today the Search Team met in person, spending six hours vetting our top candidates.  We reviewed, in some detail, their application materials, Leadership Questionnaire, and video interview responses, and, together, considered each person’s fit for Tabor’s presidency.   Out of 44 total applicants, we have narrowed the search to five, and look forward to continuing the selection process with these gifted and well-qualified candidates.

March 9, 2021

Today the Search Team finished its eleventh meeting, reviewing applications and considering additional materials submitted by candidates.  To date we have received 42 applications, 16 of which are still at various stages in the selection process.  On March 22, our team plans to gather for an all-day, in-person meeting, during which we will make some difficult decisions, selecting and moving forward with our top 3-5 semifinalists.  Please continue to pray for our group as we attempt to deliberate wisely, listen and remain open to each other, and trust God’s leading in this important discernment process.

February 8, 2021

The Search Team met again today to review new applications, consider additional materials submitted by candidates, and to finalize the next steps of the search process.  We are very aware of the weight and importance of our assigned task.  We are committed to leading a process that is not only full of integrity and excellence, but also dependence on the Lord to provide exactly the right person to lead Tabor forward.  Please continue praying for us and for the candidates who have been and will be submitting applications to be considered for Tabor’s presidency.

January 25, 2021

In the last three weeks the Search Team has been hard at work soliciting nominations, reaching out to potential candidates, and reviewing a steady stream of applications.  We’re very pleased with both the quantity and quality of the applications received to this point.

January 8, 2021

The Search Prospectus is complete, the position has been posted, and we are officially accepting applications.  Getting to this point has involved a tremendous amount of thinking, surveying, listening, praying, processing, discussing, writing, and editing.  The Search Team has done a tremendous amount of work and has done it excellently.  And, of course, this would not be possible without so many Tabor personnel who have simply gone above and beyond.  Specifically we would like to thank Tom Shaw, Mike Klaassen, Diane Oborny, and Misty Smithson-Kahrs for their “can-do” spirit and professionalism.

It’s with a sense of anticipation, now, that the Search Team turns its attention beyond discerning what Tabor needs in its next President, to actively pursuing the man or woman that God would have for us.   The Team met again last night to finalize next steps in the application process, to begin building a list of contacts and nominations, and to determine how to best develop a robust pool of qualified candidates.  Please be praying for the person that God has for us, and for the Search Team in the days and weeks ahead.

December 29, 2020

The Search Team met today to finalize Search Prospectus language, decide how broadly we want to post the opening, and brainstorm how to best build out a strong pool of candidates. We are still on track to post the position next week and begin accepting applications.

December 18, 2020

In today’s meeting, the Search Team processed the results of the Survey, which was conducted to gather feedback from a wide range of Tabor stakeholders; considered some additional input from faculty members; received important guidance from the Board of Directors; and continued discerning, together, what Tabor needs in its next president. The Team will immediately begin writing the Search Prospectus, with the strong desire and intent to post the position the first week of January.

December 9, 2020

On Wednesday, 12/9, the Search Team had its initial meeting.  This is an outstanding group of people, who bring a diversity of gifts, skills, experience, and perspective to the group.  What they all share in common is a passion for Tabor, a love for Jesus, godly wisdom, strong convictions, and the maturity to listen well and to thoughtfully consider the views of others.

In the next month, we will do our best to come together as a cohesive team; to listen well to feedback from various stakeholders, including thoughtfully considering the survey results; and discern together the kind of person we are looking for to be Tabor’s next president.  Our hope is to have a candidate for the Board’s consideration in time to have the next president installed by Fall 2021.

As you know, this is a weighty and important endeavor, and, as such, we would greatly appreciate your prayers in the weeks and months ahead.
