Truck Driver Trainee - Saline County, KS

Depending on qualifications:

Truck Driver Trainee without CDL-$12.69/Hr. step 1 to $19.31/Hr. Step 20

Truck Driver having valid CDL $13.66/Hr. step 1 to $20.36/Hr. step 20


Trainee: Perform general duties related to roadwork such as flagging traffic, trimming trees, cutting brush, mowing right-of-ways, replacing bridge planks, assisting in concrete work, duties related to asphalt work and preparation for asphalt work. May be assigned to clean up yard and/or shop buildings. Operate mower tractors, front end loaders, skid steers and power tools such as chain saws, weed whips and hand tools required for assigned tasks. Perform preventative maintenance.

Truck Driver: Operating a dump truck and other equipment for road and bridge maintenance and construction activities, responsible for preventative maintenance of assigned equipment, perform general labor duties related to roadwork, bridge work and asphalt work, perform general yard labor as required, responsible for keeping records of service requests and other records as required.



  1. Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
  2. Must have valid class C driver license.
  3. Must be insurable under Saline County’s fleet insurance policy.
  4.  Must be able to obtain at a minimum, a valid class B commercial Driver’s License by completion of the probationary period.
  5. Must be able to work independently.
  6.  Must be able to perform work in all seasons

Truck Driver:

  1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2.  Must have a valid Class B Commercial Driver License with air brake, tractor/trailer and tanker endorsements.
  3.  Must be insurable under Saline County’s fleet insurance policy.
  4.  Six (6) months experience operating dump trucks. A certificate from a vocational-technical school may be substituted for experience.
  5.  Able to work independently

Physical requirements:

Determined work level: Level 4- heavy work**will accept applicants at 3.50 exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly. Possess eye/hand/foot coordination sufficient to drive vehicle. Ability to use one or both legs and/or feet to move controls on machinery equipment. Must have fine and gross manual dexterity to operate hand tools and equipment necessary to perform general labor duties. Ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Job performance and or safety of self and others demands being able to see clearly 20 feet or more.
