Dean Nachtigall, D.O.(G’68)

Orthopedic and Hand Surgery
After graduating from Tabor College in 1968, Dean went on to Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences in Kansas City, MO from 1968-1972. He did his Orthopedic Surgery Residency there from 1973-1977 and a Fellowship in Hand Surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital/Research Center during that same span in 1976-1977. Dean received his Certification for the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery in 1981.
Dean was on Active Staff at Memorial Hospital, York, PA for nearly 40 years, from 1977- 2016 and during that time has served as Dept Chair for Orthopedics and Program Director for Orthopedic Surgical Residency as well as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Medical Executive Team. In addition, he has also been Active Staff at York Hospital from 1991 to present, Wellspan Surgery & Rehab Hospital from 2014 to present, Apple Hill Medical Center, and HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of York, 1981-2016.
Dean was awarded a Fellowship from the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics, recently serving as President of this national organization and has written numerous articles related to sports injuries and has been published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics.
He loved training Orthopedic Surgery residents and was the Orthopedic Residency Program director for many years, where he trained over 50 Orthopedic residents during this time. Dean and his wife Carol Janzen Nachtigall(G’69) are active in the First Presbyterian Church of York and he also serves on the Tabor College Board of Directors. Dean is married to Carol (Janzen) Nachtigall and they have 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
