CMBS Dinner, Tour Features Area Architecture

Keith Sprunger Bethel CollegeHILLSBORO, Kan. – Tabor College’s Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies will host its annual dinner and heritage tour Saturday, April 28. The tour will begin at 11:45 a.m., and the dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m., in the Presidential Heritage Lobby of the Shari Flaming Center for the Arts.

The tour will begin at the Historic Church on the Tabor campus and visit other historic sites in Marion County including Gnadenau, Edenfeld, the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren first baptismal site and more.

The event’s keynote speaker, Keith Sprunger, focuses on Mennonite architecture and is professor of history at Bethel College.

His presentation, “Tabor College in the Architectural History of Kansas,” will showcase his research and insights into historic architecture in Kansas, especially Mennonite architecture.

Tabor has a rich heritage whose CMBS holds all the records for the Mennonite Brethren denomination that founded Tabor.

“This is our time to celebrate the history of Mennonite Brethren and Tabor College,” said Peggy Goertzen, director of the Center for Mennonite Brethren studies at Tabor. “Sprunger is well versed in the architectural history. We are looking forward to this event.”

The cost of the morning tour is $35 and includes a faspa lunch, and the cost of the dinner event is $18. Reservations are due April 23.
