Carol Friesen (g’54)

Friesen was born in Hillsboro, Kan., on March 6, 1932, to Peter E. and Lillie (Boese) Heinrichs. She was raised on the family farm south of Canton with older sister Wanda and younger brother Lowell.  She attended the one-room school near their home, then graduated from Goessel High School in 1950.  She attended Tabor College, where she met Walter S. Friesen from Meade, Kan., and they married on Sept. 5, 1953.  They parented three children and lived in many locations in support of Walter’s education and career in education and ministry, retiring in the Newton (Kan.) area. While Carol held numerous secretarial positions and enjoyed volunteering, her passions were music and nature. 

Inez Suderman (fs’57)

Suderman was born to Adolph and Lea (Wedel) Javorsky on July 10, 1938. She graduated from Corn Bible Academy in 1956 and later attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan., and SW Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Okla. She prayed to accept Jesus as her Savior and was an active member in the churches she attended. She married Emery L. Suderman in Bessie, Okla., on July 29, 1960. They had three children- James, Carol and Tim. Inez had a great love for music and was a tireless volunteer for various organizations.

Wilmer Thiessen (fs’56)

Thiessen was born on Jan. 30, 1931, to Henry and Anna Thiessen outside of Henderson, Neb. He was one of seven children and grew up attending Henderson Mennonite Brethren Church. He attended Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan., meeting his wife of 66 years, Hildegard (Krieger). He served in 1W Service and helped start Garden Park Mennonite Brethren Church in Denver, Colo. Many of the same couples joined together and built what became Deer Creek Christian Camp near Bailey, Colo. His family later moved to Hillsboro in 1974 and spent the next 40-plus years working, worshipping, and enjoying the life God gave them in Hillsboro and Wichita, Kan.
