Tabor’s Sara Sagner to perform senior recital

Sara Sagner- Senior Voice (1)

HILLSBORO, Kan. – Tabor College music major Sara Sagner will be performing her senior voice recital at 7 p.m. on Tues. March 10 in the Tabor College Chapel.

Sagner, daughter of David and Eileen Sagner of Cheney, Kan., will be performing a variety of musical selections for her recital. Sagner has chosen pieces by Giulio Caccini, Reinhard Keiser, Robert Schumann, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Benjamin Britten, Claude Debussy and others. She will be accompanied by senior Krista Neifert on piano. One number will feature junior Lauren Neufeld on oboe. On another number, senior Andrea Acker will be singing soprano.

Sagner chose to sing works from these composers because of the variety of repertoire.

“The text is a key factor for me when picking repertoire,” Sagner said. “The meaning being conveyed is important to me. I also enjoy reading about why the composers wrote what they did.

“I love the research aspect of selecting repertoire, which helps me see if I want to sing that particular song. I also like to choose unique songs that are not as popular,” she added.

Sagner is majoring in vocal music education and special education.  Her musical experience at Tabor has been enlightening and spiritual.

“Performing is always a rewarding experience,” Sagner said. “But it is a spiritual experience to know that none of it would be possible without the Lord’s blessing. God gave me the gifts that I have, I didn’t earn them. All the glory goes to Him.”

After she graduates in May, Sagner plans to marry her fiancé, senior Trevor Morris, in July. She will then student teach next fall and pursue a teaching career in vocal music or special education.
