Tabor College spring play The Secret in the Wings

secretnewsadHILLSBORO, Kan. – The Tabor College Theater department presents The Secret in the Wings, a new play by Mary Zimmerman. This adventurous play uses music and inventive storytelling to weave together centuries-old fairy tales, resulting in scenes that are often funny, sometimes strange and always captivating.

Show times are as follows: 7:30 p.m., Wed., March 11, 7:30 p.m., Thurs., March 12, 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Sat., March 14 in the Lab Theater located in the basement of the H.W. Lohrenz Building on campus. General admission is $6 and $4 for students.

Director of Theater Laurel Koerner says this play will challenge her students in many different ways.

“This contemporary play is clever, quirky, darkly comic and stunningly theatrical,” Koerner said. “It will require creativity on the part of the cast, which is made up of five women and four men.

“The cast is working with this material in a way that makes our telling of these stories unique from any other interpretation,” Koerner added. “They have a lot of creative control, so the humor is all their own. This play shifts from laugh-out-loud funny to hauntingly beautiful and back again in a matter of minutes. It’s exciting to be dealing with a new script that has been produced just a few times prior to our envisioning.”

The cast includes: Cheyenne Derksen, senior; Sam Klein, senior; Alisa Ediger, freshman; Michael Beye, sophomore; Ryne Preheim, freshman; Reuven Isaac, freshman; Kari Schmidt, freshman; Olivia Kliewer, junior; Molly Wiebe, freshman.
