Susan Williams to Perform Guest Recital Oct. 23

Susan Williams to Perform Guest Recital Oct. 23HILLSBORO, Kan. – Guest soloist Susan Williams, soprano, and J. Bradley Baker, pianist, will present a recital at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23 in the Tabor College Chapel Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public. A light reception will follow the recital.

Williams will serve as guest clinician and adjudicator for Tabor’s First Annual Voice Festival and Competition on Oct. 24. She is an assistant professor of voice at the University of Alabama and is a frequent performer throughout the world. Recently she presented solo recitals in Cuba and India. Williams holds degrees from Birmingham Southern College, the University of Akron and the Cleveland Institute of Music.

“Bringing guest artists to campus to perform concerts is a fantastic opportunity for students to hear quality performers working in their field of study and to meet and interact with them in a meaningful way,” said Jen Stephenson, assistant professor of choral music at Tabor.

“Much as it is imperative that business students are able to meet and speak with working professionals to discover the demands of the profession, it is an integral part of arts education for collegiate music students to interact with working professionals in our field,” she added.

Collaborating with Williams for the program is Tabor’s Music Preparatory School Director J. Bradley Baker. He serves as the principal pianist for the Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Symphony Orchestra, Hot Springs (Ark.) Chamber Music Festival and coach for Wichita Grand Opera. Baker holds degrees from North Dakota State University, the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Alabama.

“It’s shaping up to be a fabulous weekend of music,” Stephenson added. “I hope that students and Hillsboro residents alike are able to come out and hear some quality classical music.”
