HILLSBORO, Kan. – Tabor College music major, Krista Neifert, will be performing her senior piano recital at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 28 in the Tabor College Chapel.

Neifert, daughter of Mike and Susan Neifert, from Pratt, Kan., will be performing the following musical selections: “Suite in G Major” by Johan Sebastian Bach; “Ballade in F Major” by Chopin; “Prelude in G Sharp Minor” by Rachmaninoff; “Malambo” by Alberto Ginastera; and Beethoven’s “Sonata in C Minor, Op. 13 – Pathétique.”

She selected these particular pieces to have a recital with plenty of variation.

“I wanted to choose music that displayed a variety of time periods and styles,” Neifert said. “The Bach ‘Suite’ is lively and fun to play. I love how the drama and passion of the Grave movement of Beethoven’s ‘Pathétique’ is contrasted with the lovely, lyrical Adagio Cantabile of the second movement.

“Rachmaninoff portrays an intense and melancholy yearning in his 12th prelude. I chose to end the recital with the fun Ginastera ‘Malambo’ that delves into atonal harmonies and Spanish dance rhythms.”

Neifert has experienced a transformation in her mind, body and soul since leaving home and coming to Tabor.

“I have grown a lot since coming to Tabor both as a musician and as a person,” she said. “I feel that I have been equipped to begin my dream job of teaching music. It is good to know that I have a solid educational foundation thatKrista Neifert Headshot will prepare me for a life of learning how to be a better teacher. I look forward to challenging and helping my students reach their musical dreams just as the Tabor music faculty has helped me reach mine.”

Neifert is pursuing degrees in music education, music/piano pedagogy, plus biblical and religious studies.

After graduation from Tabor in May, she plans to teach music wherever God leads her. She gives all the glory to Him regarding her gift as a musician.

“I believe that music is a gift of great beauty that God has given to us,” she emphasized. “It gives me a chance to express myself creatively in a way that gives glory and praise to God and enriches the lives those who hear.”
