Jeremy Johnson receives John J. Killian Scholarship

Johnson JeremyHILLSBORO, Kan. – Tabor College announces that Jeremy Johnson received the John J. Killian Scholarship worth $1,250 towards his education.

Johnson was nominated by business professor Norm Hope. Once nominated, Johnson completed the application, sent in an official transcript, a resume and three sealed letters of recommendation. He was notified of the financial award on March 26.

“This scholarship will help my education by making it more affordable,” Johnson said, “as well as provide outstanding opportunities for me to learn more about accounting while networking with other KSCPA (Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants) members.”

“As a department we congratulate Jeremy on this outstanding achievement,” Hope said. “He continues a tradition of Killian winners from Tabor. We have been fortunate enough to have six Killian Scholarship winners in the past 11 years. Jeremy reflects the best in our business students, persons who strive for academic excellence and who are involved in the co-curricular life of the campus.”

Funded by Kansas CPAs in honor of the KSCPA’s first full-time executive director, this scholarship is given to one full-time student enrolled as an accounting major in their junior year at an independent Kansas college or university. Qualified scholarship nominees must demonstrate academic success in their accounting curriculum. 

Additional emphasis is placed on the nominee’s grades in English and rhetoric subjects, as well as courses in business and economics. Important qualifications also include the nominee’s involvement in extracurricular activities, willingness to comply with standards of professional responsibility, and overall moral character.DSC_0608

The Olathe, Kan., native graduated from Heritage Christian Academy (Olathe) in May 2012. His extracurricular activities at Tabor include: varsity soccer, varsity tennis, Navigators ministry, Silence Breakers ministry and Business Department Student Advisory Council. He is expected to graduate from Tabor in May 2016 with degrees in business administration, with emphasis in accounting/finance, and philosophy. He wants to pursue a career in finance.
