HILLSBORO, Kan. – Liz Wittrig, a recent graduate of Goshen College (Ind.), has been selected as the archival intern for the Mennonite Brethren Historical Commission. During June and early July, Wittrig visited three of the four denominational archival centers in North America in Fresno, Calif., Abbotsford, British Columbia and Winnipeg, Manitoba. She will be finishing her five-week archival internship at the Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies in Hillsboro July 5-12.

The summer internship is made possible with support from the U.S. and Canadian Mennonite Brethren Churches, administered by Jon Isaak, executive secretary of the MB Historical Commission.

The internship is designed to give Wittrig practical experience in each archive. It also serves as an opportunity to discover the unique character of each area as she pursues her interest in women’s studies in relation to Anabaptist history.

Peggy Goertzen, director of the Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies at Tabor, is excited to have Wittrig visit. Goertzen hopes to share with her some of the rich Mennonite Brethren heritage and collections housed in Hillsboro.

“This is an exciting opportunity for us,” said Goertzen, “to continue to share and preserve the stories and culture of our heritage and history of the MB Church. We have much to show her.”

Wittrig will be staying with local host, June Suderman.
