Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies Spring Banquet

The speaker will be Mark Jantzen, Ph.D., Professor of History, Bethel College, North Newton, Kan.
Jantzen grew up on a dairy farm near Beatrice, Neb., and has been teaching European and Mennonite history at Bethel College since 2001. He graduated from Bethel College with a degrees in German and mathematical science with a computer science emphasis, from Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Ind., with a master of arts in Church History and the from the University of Notre Dame with a Ph.D. in Modern European History.
He worked with Mennonite Central Committee in East Germany from 1988 to 1991 and in Serbia from 1993 to 1996. He is the author of “The Wrong Side of the Wall: An American in East Germany during the Peaceful Revolution” and “Mennonite German Soldiers: Nation, Religion, and Family in the Prussian East, 1772-1880” and editor with John D. Thiesen of “The Danzig Mennonite Church: Its Origin and History from 1569-1919” and “The Military Service Exemption of the Mennonites of Provincial Prussia.” He is a member and deacon of Faith Mennonite Church in Newton. He is married to Alice Hartman Jantzen and they have three children.
