Chamber Recital Sept. 13

Chamber Recital poster for Sept. 13 concert HILLSBORO, Kan. – The Tabor College Department of Music will host a Chamber Recital at 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 13 at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. The concert is free and open to the public.

Tabor Professor of Piano Sheila Litke will be joined by musicians Adrienne Dougherty, violin; Camille Burrow, cello; and Jordan Robert, French horn, in performing “Piano Trio in G Minor, Op. 110” by Robert Schumann and “Horn Trio in E-flat Major, Op. 40” by Johannes Brahms.

“It is always a pleasure to perform with wonderful musicians,” Litke said, “and to be able to work on such great pieces is even better. These pieces are very challenging for all the performers, but also some of the most rewarding.”

Litke chose to perform these two pieces of music for a specific reason.

“Both pieces on the program are uniquely connected in that Brahms was ‘discovered’ by Schumann,” Litke added. “They were very close throughout Schumann’s life. After Schumann’s death, Brahms maintained contact with Clara, Schumann’s wife, encouraging her to perform Schumann’s music, thus keeping it in the repertoire.”
