Continuous Improvement/AQIP
Tabor College is in final preparations for a “Quality Checkup Visit” from the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP). The visit, to be conducted Nov. 5-7, is the first for the College since it began the process of becoming an AQIP-accredited institution.
The AQIP program ensures that Tabor focuses strategic attention upon “continuous improvement” efforts to strengthen the quality of Tabor’s programs and services.
“The coming visit has two purposes,” said Dr. Cherry Stucky, Associate Dean for Continuous Improvement and Effectiveness, who directs the AQIP process at Tabor.
“First, AQIP reviewers will validate Tabor’s Criteria for Accreditation for its coming Reaffirmation of Accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission (North Central Association). Second, AQIP reviewers will affirm Tabor’s commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).”
Tabor College was founded in 1908 and accredited by the Kansas Board of Education as a 4-year college in 1928. Since 1965, Tabor has been regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. This regional accreditation provides both public certification of acceptable institutional quality and an opportunity and incentive for organizational self-improvement.
AQIP provides an alternative process through which an already-accredited institution can maintain its accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. AQIP is built upon quality improvement principles and processes and involves a structured set of goal-setting, networking and accountability activities. These processes and activities will be subject to review during the AQIP team’s on-campus visit at Tabor College.
